The John Brabourne Big 5 Award sponsored by Kodak, Arri Media, Pinewood, Technicolor and Kaos Films
AWARD: The John Brabourne Awards is delighted to announce a very special award as part of our scheme: The Big 5 Award. Five of the biggest companies in British film have come together to create this one incredible award for a young and talented director looking to direct their first short film.
Kodak: Kodak are donating 10,000 feet of 35mm.
Arri Media: Arri will donate cameras and lights the project. Type of camera and lights to be agreed with the production. In addition Arri will offer a one week lighting course for someone on the production.
Pinewood: Pinewood will donate set access at Pinewood, Shepperton or Teddington Studios. Pinewood will also donate the audio post production.
Technicolor: Technicolor will donate the processing and telecine of the rushes from the 10,000 feet of 35mm and the digital intermediate 2k data transfer. Technicolor will also donate the visual post production of the short film.
Kaos Films: Kaos Films manage the British Short Screenplay Competition universally regarded as "the best and the most prestigious short screenplay competition in the world" now in its 8th year. The BSSC will offer a wining short script from a pool of 2,500 which has been judged by leading industry figures including Kenneth Branagh, Michael Khun and Sir Alan Parker.
Kaos Films will also produce the film with the winning director and subsequently manage it on the film festival circuit around the world.
The Big 5 award is supported by Working Title.
VALUE: Around £100k
APPLICANTS: We are looking for a new directing talent who has experience of directing and a showcase of work to support their application. The award is designed to offer this person their big break into directing their first professional short film. The overall value of The Big 5 award is around £100k, the film will be premiered in a screening at BAFTA and will be entered into short film festivals around the world.

The John Brabourne Award sponsored by Endemol
AWARD: Endemol are offering an exciting opportunity to work within their Creative Unit for someone interested in working in television development or production. This can be based in London or Bristol and includes 2 weeks paid work experience, a training course in researching or similar with value of £1.5k and a mentor at Endemol for a one year term.
VALUE: £3,300
APPLICANTS: We are looking for a creative and talented individual who can contribute to the creative unit at Endemol. This person should have some working experience or training in the television industry. They must be bright, hardworking and demonstrate a keen motivation in career intentions.
The John Brabourne Award for Television Promotion sponsored by TCM
AWARD: Turner Classic Movies are offering a special award focused on the On-Air television promotions. TCM will send the applicant to the annual Promax conference, either in the UK or Europe. In addition, a period of un-paid work experience the promos department at Turner if this interests the candidate.
VALUE: £650
APPLICANTS: We are looking for creative people (writer, producer, director, animator, editor) with an expressed interest in breaking into television promotions. Ideally this person will be able to demonstrate some knowledge and interest in the promotions area and possibly have created some trailers already. They must have original ideas and individual creative flair.
The John Brabourne Young Film-maker Award sponsored by Kodak
AWARD: Kodak are offering 5 rolls of 16mm Kodak film for the shooting of a short film.
VALUE: £1,000
APPLICANTS: We are looking for talented directors who have a great short film to shoot. Film stock must be put towards an interesting and clever short film, preferably a young director who already has some experience of shooting on film.
AWARD: ITV are offering a £3,000 cash sum plus paid work experience at the London Studios on an ITV based studio production.
VALUE: £5,000
APPLICANTS: We are looking for individuals who have some training or experience in cameras, vision mixing, studio sound, and who can demonstrate a passion for working within a live or studio based television role.
The John Brabourne Award for Television Post Production sponsored by The Club
AWARD: £5k worth of access to post production or training in post production at The Club television post production facility in Covent Garden, London.
VALUE: £5,000
APPLICANTS: We are looking for someone who has the personality and attitude to fit well into a post production environment. The candidate must be able to demonstrate a keen interest in television post, but need not have a great deal of experience. They must have good communication skills, great people skills and be willing to work long hours.
The John Brabourne Award for television post production – sponsored by Envy Post Production
AWARD: Envy post production are offering £1k worth of post production or training in post production at their television post production company in Soho, London.
VALUE: £1,000
APPLICANTS: We are looking for someone who has the personality and attitude to fit well into a post production environment. The candidate must be able to demonstrate a keen interest in television post, but need not have a great deal of experience. They must have good communication skills, great people skills and be willing to work long hours.
This award carries a maximum value of £10,000 and is a match funded award between the UK Film Council and The John Brabourne Award, the youth talent scheme of The Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund.
The aim of this award is to support a talented individual to achieve their goal in film. This person will be on the cusp of furthering their career and expanding their experience through a significant opportunity that is in their grasp but not yet realised. In particular, this award aims to broaden the social, economic and cultural mix of the film industry. The award can be used for an education programme, relevant scheme or a significant opportunity for work experience or furthering professional skill base.

The cut off date for the 2009 award is 31st March 2009, application can be made between now and that date but will be considered for funding in April 2009 and the award will be made by the end of May 2009.
