The Big 5 Comedy INDUSTRY Panel

The CTBF are delighted to announce the Big 5 Industry judging panel. These people are some of the biggest names in British film and comedy production and will be responsible for choosing the winning script from a shortlist. This is the best chance any potential writer can get to have his or her scripts seen by the most influential people in the business.

Kenton Allen

Kenton Allen – Big Talk Productions
In September 2008 Kenton Allen became Chief Executive of Big Talk Productions, one of the leading Comedy Producers in the UK whose credits include the Television series "Free Agents", "Spaced" and "Black Books" and the hit feature films "Shaun Of The Dead" and "Hot Fuzz".

He is a multi-award winning programme maker with Producer credits including the multi BAFTA winning sitcom "The Royle Family" and the Oscar® award winning film "Six Shooter".

Kenton was Creative Head of BBC Comedy and the Manchester unit which he established, and BBC Comedy North between 2003 and 2008. He Produced and Executive Produced a diverse range of comedy programming including the BAFTA award-winning sketch show "That Mitchell and Webb Look" (BBC2), the BAFTA nominated drama series "Funland" (BBC3) along with numerous other projects including "The Omid Djalili Show" (BBC1), "After You’ve Gone" (BBC1), "Freezing" (BBC2), "The Visit" (BBC1 and BBC3), "Massive" (BBC3) and four series of "Ideal" (BBC2 and BBC3).

Sally Caplan Sally Caplan – UK film Council
Sally has worked with and for some of the world’s biggest providers of entertainment and film content. From EMI and PolyGram before moving to Momentum Pictures as Senior Vice President of Acquisitions and Business Affairs. At Momentum, Sally acquired films such as "Amelie", "Lost in Translation" and "Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind". Sally then joined Icon Film UK as President before moving to UK Film Council where she was appointed the Head of Premier Fund working with filmmakers on script development, casting and production. Some of those films already released include: "Miss Potter", "How to loose Friends and Alienate People" and the more recent "Nowhere Boy".
Sarah Farrell

Sarah Farrell – Paramount Comedy Central
Sarah has worked at the channel since 2003, leaving for a spell at Baby Cow before being lured back in 2008.

As Director of Comedy content, Sarah acquired the rights to shows such as "Two and a half Men" and "South Park" as well as commissioning live comedy specials featuring performances from acts including Rhod Gilbert, Jim Jefferies and Michael McIntyre. She is currently working with a number of Indies on formats with a potential to air on Comedy Central's international channels including 13 episodes of "Grumpy Young Men" and new 8 part series "Olivia Lee: Dirty Sexy Funny" (Tiger Aspect Productions).

Amelia Granger Amelia Granger – Working Title Films
Amelia has been with the company since 1994, working across the development and production slate. Most recently, she has worked on films such as "Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason", "Love Actually", "Elizabeth: The Golden Age", "Pride & Prejudice", "Atonement", "Nanny McPhee", "The Boat That Rocked", and the upcoming "Nanny McPhee & The Big Bang". She is also responsible for acquiring book to film rights for the company and oversees the annual Working Title Films Master classes in Screenwriting at the Hay Festival.
Dan Mazer Dan Mazer – Writer, Director, Producer
Dan is an exceptional writer, director and producer who has produced everything from "The Word" on Channel 4 to the "Big Breakfast" and in more recent years has been the writing partner of Sasha Baron Cohen and co –creator of the infamous "Ali G Show". Dan is the writer and executive producer of the iconic films "Borat" and "Bruno". He is currently developing a slate of films for Working Title films and Lionsgate.
